Former Nigeria international Taribo West, talks about the vacant coaching position at the Super Eagles presently managed by Augustine Eguavoen; npflupdates.com reports.
The Super Eagles is still without a permanent coach since Finidi’s shocking resignation earlier this year.
Several expatriate coaches(Eric Challe, Tom Saintfiet, and Herve Renard) have been linked to the job.
The Nigeria Football Federation NFF, last month publicly announced German tactician Bruno Labbadia as Super Eagles coach. However, the former VFL Wolfsburg manager walked out of the job after failing to reach an agreement with the federation.
NFF technical director Augustine Eguavoen took charge of the three-time African champions on interim basis, accumulating four points from a possible six in the 2025 AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Speaking on Brila FM’s ‘No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze’, Taribo West, founder of the Shelter in The Storm Miracle Ministry, agreed that the 59-year-old was a good coach. But lacked the grace to steer the national team to glory.
“Anytime Eguavoen leads the team, he brings a certain touch, taking the team back to those glorious days.
In major tournaments, where you expect them to cross the line, something always happens. What Eguavoen is lacking is only grace,” Taribo West was quoted by PUNCH Nigeria.
While acknowledging Eguavoen’s tactical approach often brings out the best in the players, West stressed that results haven’t consistently followed.
“The team will play well, but the results won’t favour them,” said West.
