Olumide Adeyinka-Fusika (SAN), counsel for embattled Afrobeat star, Seun Kuti has said that he is unaware the police seized his client’s gun licence.
A source who knew about the seized gun licence had said;
“The officers that searched Seun Kuti’s home on Tuesday only found a gun licence, and they seized it. I can confirm that the command is currently working on revoking the licence.”
However, Olumide stated that there is no link between his client’s case of assaulting a policeman and a gun licence.
He said;
“Regrettably, I’m not aware of this. However, a licence is not a gun. A gun license is a mere piece of paper authorising the bearer or licence to own and have possession of a specified piece of arm (gun).
“Besides, what’s the connection between the allegation of slapping a policeman and police seizure of his gun licence?”
A Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday, ordered the remand of Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, for 48 hours in police custody.
The police dragged Kuti to court for assaulting one Inspector Mohammed Aminu, in Lagos last Saturday as captured in a viral video.
The youngest son of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, had been in police custody since Monday after he turned himself in, following an order for his arrest by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.
The police took him before the magistrate on Tuesday to get an order to further keep him in custody pending the conclusion of investigation.
