Confirm News reports have it that Zenith Bank Plc. has formalized a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the French Government to inaugurate a subsidiary of Zenith Bank Plc in France, signifying a pivotal step towards expansion and strategic presence within the European Union.
The MoU, signed by Jim Ovia, CFR, Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, and Mr. Olivier Becht, the French Minister for Trade, Attractiveness and French Nationals Abroad, underscores Zenith Bank’s pursuit of regulatory approval from the Autorite’ de Controle Prudentiel et de Resolution (ACPR) to establish its subsidiary in France, leveraging its wholly-owned subsidiary, Zenith Bank (UK) Limited.
Expressing his delight during the signing ceremony, Jim Ovia remarked, “It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Nigeria and Zenith Bank. I am indeed very delighted about the signing of this MoU with France. For me, it is an honour to do this on behalf of the bank, and we look forward to securing the licence and starting operations in early 2024.”
He extended gratitude to the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Emmanuelle Blatmann, and the French Embassy in Nigeria for fostering improved business relations between France and Nigeria.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Olivier Becht hailed the decision of Zenith Bank to establish an office in Paris as a significant development, marking the bank’s first presence within the European Union.
He emphasized the mutual confidence between the two entities and lauded Zenith Bank’s vision in global finance. Minister Becht highlighted France’s commitment to pro-business reforms aimed at enhancing attractiveness through simplified procedures and reduced taxes, amounting to over 25 billion Euros.
He stressed the potential of this partnership to strengthen French-Nigerian economic relations, fostering investments in both countries.
