As I sit down to write this, my heart is overflowing with a mix of emotions—joy, nostalgia, pride, and a touch of bittersweetness that’s engaging in serious gymnastics inside me.
Omo Mi Owon, the light of my life, is engaged and next year has been chosen for the official start of her new journey into marital life.
It feels just like yesterday; everything seems to be playing in front of me like an endless movie series. Her image as a toddler became clearer in the picture that’s playing before my eyes. It vividly reveals how I used to take her around, especially when she could walk and talk. Virtually everyone around our Mushin neighborhood, where she first saw her first flash of life’s light, knew daddy and daughter together.
Now, that ‘very small girl’ that I nurtured from being tiny toes to now, is embarking on a new journey, that is bound to shape the rest of her life.
Now, let me tell you something about this my special gift from Mother Nature. The moment she popped out, I knew something was different about her as I held her at that Taxi Park Hospital in Mushin. Her first steps, her first words, her first day of school—each milestone was a testament to her strength, intelligence, and boundless spirit. Watching her grow has been the greatest privilege of my life. She has always been a source of immense pride, not just for her achievements, but for the kind, compassionate, and resilient person she has become.
Her engagement is a beautiful milestone, a celebration of love and commitment.
When she introduced her fiancé to me, I saw the same spark in her eyes that I had seen when she was a child, discovering something new and wonderful. It was clear that she had found someone who cherishes her, respects her, and loves her for who she is. Seeing them together, I am filled with hope and happiness for their future.
As a parent, letting go is never easy because there is a part of me that wants to hold on to the little girl who needed me for almost everything. But I know that this is her time to shine, to build her own life and create her own family.
