Afrobeats female star singer, Tiwa Savage is trending right now. She is in the news due to the latest song she released currently.
While promoting the song, she opened up on life she was living before she met ex-husband Teebillz.
Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage revealed that she wasn’t a sexy diva initially, stressing that she was a tomboy before venturing into music and how her ex-husband, Teebillz rebranded her after relocating to Nigeria to pursue a singing career.
During an interview on Afrobeats Intelligence podcast hosted by Joey Akan on Friday, 18th June 2025, Tiwa revealed that before fame and glamour, she had a completely different personality.
According to the Afrobeats queen, growing up, she was very much a tomboy, rocking baggy clothes, hanging out mostly with male friends, and staying far from anything considered “girly.”
“I used to be a proper tomboy. I wore baggy clothes, loved sports, and was never into makeup or fashion. My ex-husband was the one who introduced me to a more feminine side. He really encouraged me to embrace being a woman.”
The singer, reflected on how love and relationships influenced her transformation. She explained that her ex-husband, Tunji Balogun popularly known as Teebillz whom she married in 2013, saw potential in her femininity and helped her evolve her image both personally and professionally.
Though the marriage ended in 2016, Tiwa said she remains grateful for that phase of her life because it taught her confidence, womanhood, and how to embrace her beauty.
“That part of my life helped shape the Tiwa Savage everyone sees today. Even though it didn’t work out between us, I learned so much and I wouldn’t trade that growth for anything”, Tiwa said.
