The Online Reporters Association of Nigeria (ORAN), in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has taken its anti-drug abuse campaign to Ojokoro Senior High School, Ijaye, Lagos.
The awareness campaign, aimed at sensitizing students on the dangers of drug abuse, brought together members of ORAN and officers of the NDLEA.
In his remarks, ORAN President, Adegbola Shehu Tijani, explained that the initiative was conceived to discourage young people from indulging in drug use, which has become a major social concern. He shared a personal story to drive home his point, recounting how a close friend lost his life after jumping from a seven-storey building under the influence of drugs.
“Drug abuse is destroying lives and futures every day. We must all work together to ensure that young people stay away from such habits,” Tijani stated.
Also addressing the students, NDLEA Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Mrs. Titilope Ogunloye, emphasized the importance of staying drug-free and making education a top priority.
“I want all students here to understand that drugs kill. Don’t allow anyone to lure you into taking illicit substances. At this stage in your life, your education is your future. You can achieve anything you desire if you avoid bad influences,” Ogunloye advised.
She further noted that the NDLEA is open to supporting and reorienting students facing emotional or traumatic challenges that could push them toward drug use.
The lecture, attended by students from SS1 to SS3, had a turnout of nearly 400 participants.
Speaking on behalf of the school, Mrs. Adeyemi Janet Oyewolari, Coordinator of Co-Curricular Activities, who represented the Principal, Mrs. Ola Yetunde Olayemi, expressed appreciation to the organizers for their efforts.
“This programme is very impactful. We are grateful to ORAN and NDLEA for bringing this awareness to our school. We look forward to having more of such initiatives in the near future,” Mrs. Oyewolari said.
