The fight against drug trafficking in Lagos will take a grassroots turn on Thursday May 21st, 2026, as Kosofe Local Government , Online Reporters Association of Nigeria (ORAN) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency are set to host a high-profile seminar titled, Youths Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking at Anthony Village High School., Anthony Village, Lagos Nigeria With the hall expected to be packed by students, community leaders, and youth advocates, the event was framed not as a lecture, but as a mobilization. The message is clear: the future of Kosofe depends on stopping the drug abuse before it takes root in the next generation.
The seminar was made possible through collaboration between Online Reporters Association of Nigeria ORAN, Kosofe Local Government and NDLEA. ORAN, the organizer is bringing, together key stakeholders for a unified front.
The event received direct support from Kosofe Local Government Chairman, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, whose administration’s commitment to youth protection and public safety. Organizers said the partnership signals a shift toward preventive, community-based interventions rather than reactive enforcement alone.
Leading the charge is the NDLEA Lagos State Commander, Abubakar Wali, who will deliver a sobering overview of the drug trafficking landscape in Lagos and across Nigeria. Wali is expected to detail how trafficking networks target vulnerable youths through peer pressure, social media, and false promises of quick wealth. His address will combine data with real-world case studies, for students to recognize early warning signs and to see themselves as frontline defenders of their communities.
Hon. Dr. Musliu Alade Aigoro, the Kosofe Constituency 1 aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly. Aigoro will speak on the role of legislation in strengthening prevention, youth empowerment, and community accountability. He will address how laws must be paired with opportunity, tackle joblessness and lack of skills often push young people toward illicit drug trade: if elected, what he will sponsor bills that prioritize youth development and stricter oversight of drug hotspots.
Legal adviser Barrister Abdulsatsr Lawal Alade bring the legal framework into focus, explaining the consequences of drug abuse and trafficking under Nigerian law and the rights of citizens during arrest and prosecution.
A recurring theme is why youths are disproportionately targeted by trafficking syndicates. Speakers are expected to highlight how the economic hardship, peer influence, and limited access to mentorship can create openings for recruiters.
Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, will reaffirmed the council’s support for preventive education and community policing partnership. How the council will work with schools and youth groups to extend the seminar’s reach beyond Anthony Village.
Unlike traditional seminars, the event will include interactive sessions, role-playing scenarios, and anonymous question boxes to encourage honest participation. Students will debate real-life dilemmas: what to do if a friend is offered money to deliver a package, or how to report suspicious activity without fear of reprisal. Organizers said the interactive format will help demystify the topic and give youths practical tools to respond safely.
