Doris Simeon opens up about painful custody battle, emotional struggles
Renowned Nollywood actress Doris Simeon has courageously opened up about the emotional struggles she faced during her difficult custody battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Ademinokan.
In a heartfelt interview on Biola Bayo’s ‘Talk to B’ show, Simeon revealed the toll the situation took on her mental health, particularly after her ex-husband relocated their son to the United States without her consent.
Describing her deep emotional pain, Simeon recalled how, at the age of 4, her son was taken to the U.S., and she was left unable to communicate with him. “He was just 4 years old when he came to the U.S.
He was 3 when I last mothered my child,” she shared. Despite her repeated attempts to reach out to Ademinokan, he often ignored her calls or responded in a dismissive manner, which only compounded her distress.
While acknowledging that both parties had their share of faults in the failed relationship, Simeon emphasized the emotional devastation of being denied the opportunity to be a mother to her son. “He took my son without my consent, and that’s the only painful part,” she said, visibly emotional as she reflected on the situation.
Simeon also revealed how she kept her emotional turmoil hidden from the public.
Raised with the belief that she should remain strong despite adversity, she managed to keep her frustration and depression private. “I was frustrated and depressed, but I can never show that,” she admitted, explaining the inner battle she fought while maintaining a public persona of strength.
The painful situation eventually led to a legal battle, with Simeon being confronted at a movie premiere by someone who pointed out her absence at an event involving her son.
This interaction prompted her to take legal action to seek custody and visitation rights.
