The Onirolu of Irolu Remo, Oba Sikiru Adeyiga, has announced October 11 to 18, 2026, as the dates for the 43rd edition of the Agan-Un Festival.
The announcement was made during a briefing at the monarch’s newly built palace, with the Irolu Development Association and the Local Organising Committee preparing for the eight-day celebration.
According to the organisers, activities will begin with an environmental week from October 4 to 10, focused on community clean-up and environmental awareness.
The main festival will open on Sunday, October 11, with a church service and homage at the Onirolu Palace.
Other activities scheduled for the week include traditional prayers, a health programme, artisan displays, an education day featuring a lecture on drug abuse and trafficking, an artistes’ night, indoor games and cultural displays.
Friday, October 16, will feature a Juma’at service, a novelty football match, a candlelight procession and fireworks.
The following day will include a marathon, carnival procession, grand finale and musical concerts.
The festival will conclude on Sunday, October 18, with a thanksgiving service.
Oba Sikiru Adeyiga described the 2026 edition as an opportunity for indigenes and residents to come together for an eight-day celebration of the community’s cultural and social life.
“ Activities will begin with a one week sanitation tagged Environmental Week and this will commence from 4th – 10th of October, 2026. The Environmental Week involves clearing of drainages, cutting of overgrown plants and keeping the environment generally clean and safe for indigenes and guests.
“However, The main festival will begin on Sunday,, 11th of October, 2026 with and opening service at All Saints Anglican Church, Irolu Remo and will be followed by a program called Homage to Onirolu Palace where artisans, traders, market women, associations, unions, regbe-regbe’s will visit the Onirolu for a prayer session, followed by a gift from each group”, Onirolu, Oba Sikiru Adeyiga Said.
