The Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Mohammed Abubakar, has announced the commencement of Ramadan fasting.

Abubakar said the crescent for the commencement of the Ramadan fasting has been sighted.

In a broadcast on NTA on Wednesday night, the Sultan said Muslims in the country should commence fasting on Thursday, March 23.

Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is a spiritual rite that is performed for a month every year. During this period, Muslim faithfuls abstain from food and drink from dawn till the sun set.
